FILM REVIEW: Hamlet - Lina Teyar - 2bachC

FILM REVIEW: Hamlet (1948)

Hamlet is a 1948 British film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. It was adapted, directed and starred Sir Laurence Oliver. He stars as the main character - which is Hamlet. The film was set in the United Kingdom, and it tells the story of a prince called Hamlet who wants to revenge because of the murder of his father.

Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark. His mother the queen of Denmark marries his uncle after his father the King is murdered in a very secret and extraordinary way. A ghost appears and it reports to him that his father was killed by his uncle, and therefore he has to revenge against him. He plans different ways of making his uncle understand that he knows who killed the King. Ever since, there would be lots of dramatic situations between Hamlet and those who live round him.

A positive aspect of the movie is that it is a good adaptation of Shakespeare's play, since it is felt as we would be reading it in spite of watching it. On the downside, it is tiring because the actions are slow.

In my point of view, this adaptation is not to be missed if after reading Hamlet by William Shakespeare there would be readers who would want to watch in real life actual people respresenting its characters.
