Alexandra David-Néel (October 24, 1868 -
September 8, 1969) was born in Paris, France.
During her
childhood, she was full of energy
to learn, explore and to travel that
at the age of 18, she had already visited England, Switzerland and Spain on her
own.
She studied
Buddhism in India, in 1911. Then she lived in a cave for two years in Sikkim,
near the Tibetan border to learn more about their culture. She travelled around
the world and reached her goals with her adopted child, Yongden Aphur.
David-Neel wrote
more than 30 books, about Eastern religion, culture, philosophy and her travels.
Alexandra has
inspired many Westerners to travel to Tibet, to study Tibetan Buddhism and to
live the adventure that is life.
