MARY HENRIETTA KINGSLEY.




Mary Henrietta Kingsley was born in London on October 13, 1862 , four days after the wedding of her parents.

She is an english traveller who doesn't care about the convention of her time and traveled through western and equatorial Africa and became the first European who entered in Gabon.

When she was 30 years, she decided to go to West Africa to study the African religion, in order to complete a book whose father (George Henry Kingsley) left without end.

He visited many cities and places like Cabinda,Calabar, the island of Corisco,Cameroon...

Her writings, expressing her strong sympathy for black Africans.

Kingsley wrote two books about her experiences : Travels in West Africa (1897), which was an best seller, and West African Studies (1899)

She died in Simonstown, South Africa on June 3, 1900, at the age of 37. As requested, her body was taken to sea on a warship, and was buried at sea.
